Ashley Ross

Professor Ashley Ross is an Associate Professor and former Acting-Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), South Africa. Having previous served as the Head of Department of Homoeopathy at DUT between 2000 – 2014, he has recently resumed leadership of the department since December 2021.

Prof. Ross has been in private practice for 27 years, and has been teaching homeopathic philosophy and materia medica for 25 years, as well as engaging in clinical and research supervision. His  extensive practice of homeopathy has included a period of nearly 8 years in which he collaborated with a practitioner of African traditional medicine and explored the relationship between African shamanism and homeopathy. In 2011, Prof. Ross completed a PhD in which he explored the relationship between the orthodox, homeopathic and traditional understandings of a single medicinal plant, Strychnos henningsii. He has also completed postgraduate study in health research ethics, and served on two local institutional research ethics boards (IRBs).

Prof. Ross is a highly-regarded homeopathic teacher and researcher, who has delivered lectures and seminars in South Africa, India, Latvia and the UK, presented research papers at congresses in 13 countries, and reviews for six international medical journals. He is an internationally-regarded expert in the field of homeopathic provings, and has participated actively in both the formalisation of proving methodology through the LMHI-ECH Guidelines for Homeopathic Provings (2014), and made presentations on various aspects of provings, including methodology, data analysis and comparative materia medica, in both regulatory and scientific contexts.

Prof. Ross has served as the representative for Homoeopathy on the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) for 10 years (2006 – 2016) and thereafter as a representative for Homeopathy on the Professional Board for Homoeopathy, Naturopathy and Phytotherapy (2017-2022). Prof. Ross is also a member of the National Board of the Homeopathic Association of South Africa. He is the current Secretary for Research of the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis, and more recently has been appointed as both a Trustee and a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Homeopathy Research Institute (UK). In May 2023, Prof. Ross was one of the first internationally-trained homeopathic doctors to be awarded Membership of the Faculty of Homeopathy (UK)  by equivalence [MFHom (Int)].
